Accent On Dance has been so much more than a dance studio. It is a place to grow up! It is an environment you, as a parent, can trust, filled with life lessons they, as a student, can learn. They come in at pre-school tripping over their own feet and “poof” they are young adults dancing with confidence into life! If that isn’t MAGIC – I don’t know what is! We hope to be a big part of their childhood and their ability to find themselves and their UNIQUE MAGIC in the end! We treasure the ability to impact your child’s life in a positive way through the art of dance!
Wonderful introduction to dance at the preschool level! The teachers use real ballet terms and help foster lots of self confidence”
This is the best dance studio that my daughter has been to. The teachers are top notch and teach the children morals and respect for each other. The also teach the love of dance.
If you have a child serious about dance or just looking to dance for fun, AOD is the place to be! Quality dance instruction ensures your child will learn proper technique and all the top choreographers from LA & NY have their names on the wall at this studio!
Fun, Friendly, Family, Fantastic! AOD not only celebrates dance, it celebrates the life of a dancer from preschool to professional! Just wait till you experience a recital!!!
Accent On Dance is not only a studio that teaches kids how to dance, but teaches their students valuable life lessons and how to be a better person. The teachers care about their students so much and always put them first. Their positive flow of energy overwhelms the environment and create such a beautiful family. I am honored that I was apart of this inspiring family as a student and now as a teacher.
My daughter loves dancing at Accent on Dance. The teachers know exactly how to push her to become a better dancer and inspire her to want to become better. And, the community that AOD has created is so warm and inviting. The dancers make amazing friends, no matter age or group.
We have been at AOD for 6 years, since my daughter was 3. Over the years we have seen amazing recitals and she has been taught by some really great teachers. Their competition teams are top notch and they maintain excellent rapport with their alumni who come back often to share what they have learned in their professional careers. I enjoy how the older kids interact with the younger ones. My daughter is definitely inspired to be a better dancer.
Mary M. Cummings founded Accent on Dance Studios in 1978. Her passion for dance began at the age of five when her mother had the insight to give her the gift of dance. Mary realized she had a unique ability to touch other people’s lives through the teaching of dance and set out to make a difference. Her dream started with humble beginnings in the basement of Bluemound Bowl. One “studio”, one teacher, and 70 students. In the next 7 years with the support of loyal students and friends, a strong family atmosphere. This, along with becoming known for outstanding year-end productions, helped AOD expand into two small studios in two different locations. Shortly after in 1989, Accent on Dance attended its first competition, the “Stars of Tomorrow” Talent Showcase in Brookfield Square. AOD was 1 of 20 routines competing a variety of talents and took 4th place.
In the years following, Mary continued to grow AOD and develop programs, attend conventions and competitions, and become known for outstanding year-end recitals. In 1997 Accent On Dance moved to Waukesha to a larger state of the art facility. In 2003 Dance Spirit magazine profiled Accent on Dance as one of the top dance studios to watch out for in the nation! In the fall of 2004, Mary’s daughter Kellie Plath, AOD nationally award winning Company Director and creative influence for the past 20 years, became owner and Artistic Director of the studio. Kellie was joined by her husband Chris who previously was the owner of a small Chicago area printing Company and printing executive.
The passion continues…. Many former students are now dancing and performing professionally, teaching on faculty, or bringing their children or grandchildren back to AOD. In 2009 Dancer Magazine voted Accent On Dance the number one studio in Wisconsin! In the summer of 2010 Kellie and her former student Mara Perugini opened a satellite studio in Mukwonago, Wisconsin. In 2013 after 16 years at the Eastmound Dr. location, Accent On Dance opened it’s doors to a brand new state of the art dance complex located on Watertown Rd. in Pewaukee. AOD continues to be a welcoming, healthy, inspiring, value oriented place for hundreds of dancers each year. Accent On Dance is proud to offer something for every age and ability through it’s Developmental, Troupe, and Company programs. The staff and faculty look forward to the future and continue to strive to make a difference in a dancers’s life.
